Performance

The performance program at soundSCAPE provides a creative and collaborative environment for musicians to hone in on their skills through daily rehearsals, concerts, masterclasses, and lessons with our world renowned faculty.

What instruments/voice types are admitted?

Our faculty are noted for their broad range of experience and collaboration with diverse musics and ensembles. Performers are encouraged to coach with any and all of our faculty; as such, we encourage applications from all instruments and voice types.

Performance Fellowships

The festival awards a limited number of half-tuition fellowships and partial tuition reductions to outstanding performance applicants. No additional materials are necessary for consideration beyond submitting the online application and accompanying performance recordings.

Participants without an instructor for their instrument (i.e. saxophone, etc.) will receive a tuition reduction.

Lessons and Masterclasses

Participants will have the opportunities to perform for our world-class faculty members in both lesson and masterclass settings. We will feature not only lessons and masterclass by area specialist but also masterclasses led by multiple performance faculty members.

Performance Opportunities

As part of our Festival Ensemble, participants will perform seminal repertoire from the 20th and 21st centuries alongside major works of our faculty composers. Performers will also be assigned to premieres of solo works by attending festival composers. Instrumental Institute concerts also provide participants the opportunity to perform solo or chamber repertoire coached at the festival.

Electronic Music Design and Performance Course

Led by instructor Joshua Rubin, this workshop will provide an introduction to using electronics to create and extend musical performance in solo and chamber music contexts. Using free software tools and a laptop, this course will lead performers through a sequence of building and exploration which will result in each participant making their own interactive electronic performance platform that is an extension of their instrument.
All levels welcome.

Other Opportunities at the Festival

We present workshops in improvisation, contemporary performance techniques, and in career development. Tuition includes admission to all rehearsals, concerts, and our lecture series.

Who attends the festival?

soundSCAPE places an emphasis on the exchange of ideas and culture; as such, the festival attracts composers and performers from around the world. You will join an ever-expanding network of musicians at the forefront of new music, resulting in further collaboration, commissions and performances.

How Do I Apply?

Performers on any instrument or voice apply by submitting a live recording of TWO solo contrasting works, which may be from any style/period. Links to YouTube or Vimeo performances are accepted, as well as mp3 recordings submitted via the festival email. Performers must also include a repertoire list of modern works performed/studied on the online application.
