Denis Martin is an Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Production at York University. Previously, he taught courses at McGill University and The State University of New York in Potsdam. He is known for his compassionate approach, dedication to his students, and research-based methods of instruction. His research is focused on the evaluation of student learning using statistics and on the perception, operation, and design of dynamic range compressors. In addition, he provides support in statistical data analysis and experiment design to research teams and colleagues in audio production.

As a freelance audio engineer, Denis Martin specializes in two main categories: western classical music recording and music mixing/mastering in R&B, Reggae, Indie, Jazz, and Folk. He works with local artists in Montréal and Toronto, Canada. Some of the regulars are Architek Percussion Ensemble, Aiyun Huang, Drê-D, Grej (Greg Harrison), Jewelle McKenzie, soundSCAPE Music Festival, Steve Cowan, The National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Taktus Percussion Ensemble, Wayne Tennant, and McGill Percussion Ensemble. These projects have resulted in 3 Juno nominations, 2 ECMA nominations, and the “Académie Charles Cros – Coup de Cœur Musique Contemporaine” award. Exploring the new medium of 3D music production, Denis Martin is now involved in releases in Dolby Atmos/Apple Spatial Audio.
